Nicknamed "the ginseng of the North", Angel Grass, or the Holy Spirit Root - Angelica root has had a prominent place in folklore and as a healing plant for indigenous populations since ancient times.

Plant History

In fact, it is believed to have survived the last age in Norway, and spread throughout the Nordic region. The Vikings (around year 800 AD) not only made use of Angelica's strong healing properties, but also believed it protected from evil spirits. It entered Nordic medicinal/botanical literature in the 13th century, describing both its topical use and the common, immune-boosting tradition of brewing tea of the vitamin-rich plant. There is also a variety of Angelica used in traditional Chinese medicine.

The Benefits For Your Skin

In modern times, research has shown Angelica's strong anti-aging properties, as it efficiently blocks the enzymes that cause the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. These two proteins break down as we age, and are critical for keeping your skin firm, plump, and healthy.

Angelica is highly anti-inflammatory, restores the microbial balance in the skin, and reduces build-up of impurities in the skin tissues. While being strongly detoxifying and stimulating circulation, it is also deeply soothing. Reducing redness, calming breakouts & eczema, and healing the epidermis, it combats hyperpigmentation, puffiness and irritation.
