Where do you call home?
I live in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. It’s one of the most diverse communities in the city and home to the magical Flora Grub Gardens.
Why do people look up to you?
A lot of people see homelessness and want to do something, but stop there. I saw the same thing but decided to take action, and I think people appreciate that.
What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done at work?
I was on stage about to give an Ignite talk on the Public Benefit Corporation and up pops my draft deck, which was totally different than the final version. Normally I would just wing it but Ignite talks are carefully timed with the slides advancing automatically. I was frozen for a second, not sure what to do, and then decided to take a bow and walk off stage. I gave the presentation in the next session without a hitch, but still it was embarrassing!
Biggest regret?
I only regret one thing in my life and what I learned is that if you love something, keep it safe.
Favorite pair of shoes?
I love sandals. Currently, my favorite pair is a mustard colored strappy sandal from Lilimill. They’re comfortable and give a great pop of color to my mostly blue and black wardrobe.
What would you tell your 18-year-old self if you could go back in time?
Pain, beauty, loss, love, joy, sadness - embrace them all . They’re part of the journey.
Favorite comedian?
John Stewart is amazing but my favorite comedian is my boyfriend Nick Pinkston. He has me laughing every day to his silly puns.
Dream car?
A navy blue Tesla but a lot cheaper.
Favorite line from a movie?
“Get up, Trinity. GET UP.” From the Matrix. It’s a great motivator when you need a kick it the butt to get moving. The Matrix was my favorite movie in high school and I picked up the trick from my sister.
Best skincare or makeup secret?
Sleep, sunscreen and smiles.
Best advice for aspiring entrepreneurs in 140-characters or less?
Dream big but start small...like really really really small. Focus on the problems that really matter. Start now.
